BIM Challenges and Solutions

1. Tight Project Timeline

Challenge: Completing the project within a limited timeframe

Solution: Delivered the work within the allotted timeframe through efficient execution.

2. Wet Wall Locations and Corridor Specifications

Challenge: Discrepancies in wet wall locations and corridor wall types.

Solution: Specified 6-inch W2A wood-stud walls between suites and 4-inch W2 corridor walls, maintaining a clear width of 5'-2" on both floors.

3. Revit Dimensioning Issues

Challenge: Dimension rounding to the nearest 1/32 inch resulted in numerous fractional dimensions.

Solution: Consulted the client on the appropriate dimensioning approach.

4. Curtain Wall Coordination Clash

Challenge: A curtain wall clashed with a perpendicular wall.

Solution: Submitted the issue to the client for review and resolution.

5. Missing Metal Canopy

Challenge: A prefabricated metal canopy indicated in the input documents was missing from the model.

Solution: Requested client clarification on the canopy requirements.

6. Missing Ceiling Information

Challenge: Ceiling information was missing for Suite 133.

Solution: Modeled a 10-foot acoustical ceiling based on the adjacent suite for client review.

7. Architectural and Structural Model Coordination

Challenge: Coordination issues included structural studs at window and door openings, duplicate wood trellis families, HSS steel below the ceiling, and misaligned stair and steel positions.

Solution: Flagged the discrepancies for client review and clarification.

8. Wall Thickness Discrepancy

Challenge: The structural model specified 5½-inch studs, while the architectural model indicated a 1'-8" wall thickness.

Solution: Requested client confirmation of the correct wall thickness.

Pinnacle's Value Addition

  • Enhanced the architectural BIM model by identifying constructability issues and coordinating with architects and project stakeholders to address RFIs.
  • Streamlined project communication and coordination using Newforma.
