The Rapid City Health Center is a multi-phase design-build healthcare facility in Rapid City, South Dakota. Pinnacle delivered Healthcare BIM Services in South Dakota for the 215,080 sq. ft. facility.

The building includes a basement, Levels 1–3, and a roof. It features operating theaters, OPD areas, triage rooms, ultrasound rooms, laboratories, and other healthcare spaces.

Pinnacle’s scope covered MEP 3D modeling, coordination, and 2D drawings. The team also supported clash resolution, client-specific documentation, and fabrication-ready sheet metal drawings.

Challenges & Solutions

Conflicting Input Data: The IFC contained data conflicts when compared with related project documents and standards.

Solution: Pinnacle raised the conflicts with the client and suggested potential solutions. The client then raised an RFI with the engineers and obtained a revised IFC.

Large Project Area and Limited Timeline: The 215,080 sq. ft. facility required extensive modeling within a limited timeframe.

Solution: Pinnacle allocated additional resources and optimized its workflow to complete modeling and coordination within the required schedule.

Coordination Across Multiple Trades: The project required regular coordination meetings with other trades, including meetings outside standard working hours.

Solution: Pinnacle aligned its schedule with the project's coordination requirements and attended regular meetings to streamline coordination.

Continuous Model Changes: Frequent model changes made it difficult to resolve issues and coordinate services within defined areas.

Solution: Pinnacle coordinated all trades during the initial coordination stage and maintained files in a shared folder. The subcontractors then established new service zones to provide sufficient routing space.

Client-Specific Standards: The client required specific shop drawing formats and detailed information for fabrication and installation.

Solution: Pinnacle followed the client's standards and provided system-specific drawings with dimensions, elevations, tags, lengths, item numbers, and required sections.
