PiVDC's Role

PiVDC, a set of automation plugins, supercharged the BIM workflow for diverse trades, saving time and elevating the project's overall quality. Key applications within George Mason University's project included:

Spool Creation

Annotation

Hanger Placement

Tackling Challenges with PiVDC Solutions

Traditional spool creation involves tedious, repetitive steps. The challenge in this project entailed manually selecting thousands of elements, repeatedly adjusting naming conventions, renaming spool views, and dragging them on spool sheets. While maintaining a consistent project format for BOM was labor-intensive and hampered the project workflow.

However, PiVDC addressed this challenge like a pro through its dedicated tools. One of them is

Spool Window:

This tool streamlined pool sheet creation effortlessly. The project-specific configuration and templates aided by dynamic color coding to avoid duplication has resulted in a remarkable 30-40% time saving for the team.

Manually annotating over 600 spool sheets with countless tags, numbers, and dimensions was time-consuming and affected team productivity.

PiVDC’s custom plugins automate the process, saving about 30% of the annotation time. A few examples include

Renumbering:

Used 462 times, this tool helped the team quickly assign part numbers to elements with similar parameter values. With this, the project team could group elements, place tags, add suffixes and prefixes, and organize the spooled elements, making aesthetic management super fast and efficient.

Adjust Dim Text:

This tool automated the arrangement of dimension texts in the drawings. The plugin provides some predefined formats for quick adjustment while also giving the option to set custom rules based on project reference, enhancing the detailing and quality of the project.

Maintaining the distance between the fitting to the first hanger and hanger to hanger was a daunting manual task. It required repeated dimension placement to adjust and maintain the required distance, consuming huge amounts of time.

This issue was also met head-on by the PiVDC solution with dedicated tools including???

Hanger Tool:

It automated the process and helped the project team select multiple target host elements and place hangers at once. The tool also took care of the distance automatically and attached the hanger rods to the structure ceiling, eliminating repetition and saving time.

The PiVDC Impact

The PiVDC suite, with its versatile plugins, was utilized 1,797 times on the George Mason University project, saving 5-7% in project hours l, boosting the quality and efficiency of the project. The strategic implementation of the PiVDC tools showcases Pinnacle Infotech’s commitment to excellence in construction automation.
